Marilyn J. Mitchell

Marilyn J. Mitchell, 82, of Rockford, passed away on November 20, 2012 at Rockford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born on November 18, 1930 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Janet (King) Schanks. On September 16, 1950, she married Robert Mitchell in Maywood.

Marilyn was retired from Illinois Bell, after more than 25 years of service. She was a volunteer with the Telephone Company Pioneers. She was also an Auxiliary Volunteer at Rockford Memorial Hospital for 20 years after her retirement.

Her survivors include her children, Debra (Paul) Andrews, Diane Short, Steven and Robert Mitchell; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter and Robert.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert and her parents, Harold and Janet Schanks.

Memorial service 2 p.m., Thursday, November 29, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. Pastor Wendell Maynard will officiate. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to time of service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Auxiliary at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
