Noel R. Pettenger, 75, of Roscoe, IL, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. He had dementia and Alzheimers. He was born December 5, 1949 in Dixon, IL, the son of Ray and Lucile (Taylor) Pettenger. Noel enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on July 3, 1967 and discharged on March 7, 1971. He married Susan H. Cutler on July 28, 1972. Noel and Susan had their son- Jeffrey on November 21, 1974. Jeffrey died on August 20, 1996. He was climbing with his father. He landed in his father's arm and died. Noel worked at Winnebago Forest Preserve for 22 years and then Rockford Country Club for 39 years. Noel was a man that believed in God and helping any person who needed it. He loved to preach the Gospel Ministry at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton.
Noel is survived by his sister, Penny (Denny) Bennett; brother, Ray (Sandy) Pettenger; sister, Cherie Lynn, who passed December 5, 1987; Patricia (James) Cahill, Frances (Keith-deceased) Raab, Marshall (Jo Anna) Girton, Richard (Roberta) Cutler, Daniel Cutler (deceased), Ronald Murray (deceased), Chase Murray, Michelle (Russell) Schreffer, Roberta Forrest, Kathleen and Michael Shores, Michael and Stephanie Murray, Lisa Price. He was predeceased by his father-in-laws and mother-in-law, Richard Samuel Cutler and Robert and Betty Murray.
God gave me a wonderful husband and I will continue to have him with me in my heart.
A visitation will occur Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Noel will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115-2277.
