Noel Whitmire

William Noel Whitmire, 81, of Rockford, IL went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2022. Noel was born in Batesville, Arkansas on November 7, 1941 to Frank and Rebekah Whitmire. At a young age his family moved to the Rockford area. Noel graduated from Rockford East High School in 1959. He worked at Greenlee until entering the United States Navy in 1963, serving four years during the Vietnam War until being Honorably Discharged in 1967. On October 26, 1968 Noel married the love of his life, Brenda Gambill. Together they spent 55 beautiful years. Noel enjoyed tinkering with electronics in his free time. He was an active member at First Baptist Church of Machesney Park.

Noel is survived by his wife, Brenda Whitmire; sons, Aaron Whitmire and Jason (Kelly) Whitmire; grandchildren, Drew (Taylor) Whitmire, Grace Whitmire, Chase Whitmire, and Carson Whitmire; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rebekah Whitmire; sister, Anieta Ingebretsen.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 1pm until the time of service at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations in Noel's name can be made to The Veteran's Drop In Center (1539 S 4th St, Rockford, IL 61104) or Susan G Komen Cancer Foundation.
