

Phyllis A. Fischer, 86, of Rockford, passed away September 25, 2010 at Provena Cor Mariae Center. Born January 4, 1924 in Winona, MN, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Strigel) Benson. Phyllis worked as an R.N. at St. Anthony Medical Center until retirement. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and enjoyed sewing, playing cards, baking, and crocheting. Phyllis married Larry Fischer on June 1, 1948 in Winona, MN. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2006. Survivors include her sons David (Sue), Mark (Sue), Michael (Diane) Fischer, daughter, Mary (Tim) Amundson, grandchildren, Daniel Fischer, Kim (Sam) Penn, Bryan (Lori) Amundson, Nick Fischer, Christa (Jason Scheunemann) Amundson, Emily (Dan) Binz, Brad (Kristin) Fischer, Katie Fischer, great grandchildren, Abigale Penn, Lukas Penn, Carolyn Binz and Jimmy Fischer, special friends, Joan Johnson, Jill and Terry. The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks for the special care, comfort and compassion shown to their mother by Ginny, Karen, Sue, the entire 7th floor Infusion Department at Swedish American Hospital, Dr. Schulz, Dr. Herdeman, and all platelets and blood donors. Most especially we would like to thank the entire staff at Provena Cor Mariae Center for their loving care. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Bernard Benson, and sister, Dorothy Borkin. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday, October 1, 2010 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 2330 Bell Avenue, Rockford, with an hour visitation prior to services. Visitation will also be from 5-7 pm Thursday, September 30, 2010 with a rosary to follow at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine, Machesney Park, IL. 61115. Private entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be established at a later date.
