

Mac dedicated much of his life to public service, working for the City of Loves Park and later for Winnebago County for many years. He retired in 2002 as the Captain of Narcotics for Winnebago County, earning the respect of colleagues and the community for his commitment, leadership, and integrity.
On May 9, 1980, he married Cindy Frew, sharing many years together. Traveling with his wife to Florida and Nebraska in their motorhome with their beloved Duffy Dog.
Mac is survived by his children, Beth (John) Appino, Chad (Karen) McMahon, Cathy (John) Clarke, and Debbie (Heath) Newell. He was a grandfather to Jim (Michelle) Appino, Paul Appino, Johnny (Mercedes) Appino, Michael (Anays) Appino, Kaitlin (Billy) Lennon, Bryn McMahon, Shane McMahon, Sean Clarke, Sarah Clarke, and Patrick Clarke, as well as a great‑grandfather. He is also survived by his brother Bill (Connie) McMahon, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his in‑laws; his brother Tom McMahon; and his nephew Daniel McMahon.
Mac enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, watching NASCAR races, spending time as a member of The American Lombardi Club where he enjoyed many days and often joked “maybe one more,” while relaxing with a couple of cold Miller Lites.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Alpine Fireside and OSF for the exceptional care provided to Mac.
