Rigoberto Ortega

Rigoberto Santillan Ortega, age 77, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 due to a short battle with cancer in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tayahua, Zacatecas on April 15, 1945 to Miguel and Maria Ortega. Rigoberto enjoyed gardening, dancing, music, and LOVED food and family gatherings. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his family.

Rigoberto is survived by daughters, Lorena (Kyle) Chesley, Sonia (Hector) Flores, Elizabeth "Beth" (Jeremy) Ortega-Lakey; grandchildren, Tyler, Alexander, Julian, Olivia, and Nicholas; siblings, Alejandro (the late Rafaela) Ortega, Guadalupe (Emilio) Mendez, Concepcion (Francisco) Belmontes; special friend, Rosa Lopez; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Miguel and Maria Ortega; brother, Refugeo Ortega.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 4pm to 8pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115). A Funeral Mass for Rigoberto will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Bridget Catholic Church (600 Clifford Ave, Loves Park, IL 61111). Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens (8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115). The family would like to extend a special thank you to the OSF Cancer Center and Hospital Staff.
