Roxie A. Abernathy, 76, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Monday afternoon, May 20, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 22, 1942 in East Prairie, MO, the daughter of John H. and Amanda (Bohannon) Neal. Roxie married the love of her life, Jacky K. Abernathy on January 7, 1960 in East Prairie, MO. She worked for 19 years at National Lock in Rockford, IL. Roxie made her spiritual home at Kishwaukee Baptist Church in Rockford, where she worked as a teacher’s aide and was a bus driver. She enjoyed collecting knick knacks, watching westerns, and playing cards. Most of all, she adored her grandchildren, and all animals
Roxie is loved and missed by her children, Jacky (Joni) Abernathy, Edwina Lindenmeier, Harold Abernathy, Rebecca Drolsum, and Ludella (Thomas) Smith; grandchildren, Renee Bailey, Darrell Abernathy, Candice (Jeremy) McConnell, Zachery Lindenmeier, Addison Abernathy, Skye Abernathy, Brandi (Matthew) Butler, Danniel Drolsum, Opal (Clinton) Abernathy, Brandon Abernathy, and Kenneth Smith; great-grandchildren, Kaytee Mae, Patryck, Damien, Jaci, Ethan, Tobias, and Eragon ; sister, Dolly Hall and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jacky K., son, Russell A. Abernathy, brothers, Tom Neal, Robert Price Neal, Walter Neal, and Bill Neal, and sisters, Marcella Billington, Mildred Moore, Emma Jo Shrum, and Mary Alice Guthrie.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m., until the time of service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
