Ruby was born in Jacksonville Illinois July 5, 1930. She was the only living survivor of fourteen children. Ruby married Ben Smith Jr. in 1947. Their first date happened over a box of popcorn and a movie.
Ruby will be greatly missed by five married children: Pamela Metras, Barbara DeLine, Vickie Shaver, Michael Smith and Mona Douillard. Also by nine grandchildren and seven great grand children. “Mom taught us all honesty and dependability.”
Ruby’s adult life was spent living in various cities in Illinois, Kentucky and Georgia. Her favorite was Loves Park IL. She loved all the parks in the area, watching the boats on the river and loved camping.
Ruby’s favorite pass time was going to garage sales. The Good Will was her favorite store. At one time she owned 100 pairs of shoes for which she proudly paid less than a dollar each. Ruby was also known for making the best peanut brittle candy and loved canning. Ruby also loved playing table games.
Celebration of life will be the morning of December 28th with visitation from 9:00-10:00, small service afterwards. Sunset Memorial Gardens located at 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL.
