

Ruth Ethel Birchall, 97, of Rockford, passed away Friday February 12, 2016. Born November 14, 1918 in LA Crosse, WI. Daughter of William and Olive (McVey) Selbach. Graduate of La Crosse High School. Married John B. Birchall in Sept of 1941 in Lubbock, TX. Ruth graduated from Viterbo College for Business with a 4 year degree before deciding to be a homemaker for her family. She was known for her gardening and Christmas baking. She was Famous for her Fruitcake, caramels and Fudge. She was active with the Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Brownies. She enjoyed cats, opera and classical music, reading romance stories, playing cards and games and collecting German steins and thimbles. She was a math genius.
Survivors include her children, Steve, Donna (Roger) Shattuck, Tom, Sandy (Jerry) Snyder; grandchildren, Todd (Lynn) Shattuck, Nicole (Brian) Schachtner, Julie (Paul) Bishop; great-grandchildren, Rachel Shattuck, Jordan Schachtner, Aiden Bishop; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, spouse; great-grandson, Caleb Bishop; siblings, John, Christain, Fred, Freida, Helen, Jennie.
