Sarah Ellen Higgs, 97, of Rockford, Illinois passed away Tuesday evening, September 19, 2023 in River Bluff Nursing Home. Born May 31, 1926 in Corning, Arkansas. Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Nelson and Ethel Middleton. She married Walter Higgs Jr. on March 15, 1946. She worked at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center as a housekeeper for many years.
Sarah is survived by her son Barry Steven (Pam) Higgs Sr.; her grandchildren Leroy (Tina) Anderson, Barry (Jenn) Higgs Jr., Christopher (Lori) Higgs, Melissa Servant, and Leslie Martin; her several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter Higgs Jr.; her daughter Janet and granddaughter Kim.
A visitation will be held on September 26, 2023 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Rocky Nolan. Burial to take place at New Milford Cemetery.
