Selma (Hauff) Suchobrus entered into Eternal Life with her son and her friend at her side on January 5th 2019 at the age of 90. Selma was born May 12, 1928 in Zhitomir, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine, the daughter of Aldof and Albertina (Schultz) Hauff. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Iwan Suchobrus. and daughter Lydia (Suchobrus) Korsh (Valerio). Selma and Iwan emigrated from Germany with their daughter Lydia in 1950, lived in Brisbane Australia, where Leonard was born, then moved to Rockford in 1959 and started their new life of work, sacrifice and many blessings.
Selma was the youngest in her family and was known for her keen wit and memory. She could recall dates, times, cities and events from Ukraine as a youth to the evacuation to Poland and on to Germany during World War Two. Selma loved her garden and even at age 90 had special flowers all around the house. Selma made a career of loving and caring for her family, cooking and entertaining family and many friends. Many neighbors and friends through the years received her special garden vegetables or baked goods. Children, grand children and great grand children were her passion and love.
Many thanks to her care giver Gulya, as well as OSF Hospice for such great care and love by all their staff. Selma’s loving, kind and gentle spirit touched the lives of so many, and she was loved and respected by all who were blessed to have known her. Selma, your smile and banter will always be remembered and missed by all.
Selma is predeceased by 3 brothers, Adam, Gustav and Herbert and three sisters, Maria ,Olga Suchy. and Lydia Hauff. Selma will be deeply missed by her son Leonard Suchobrus, her (7) grandchildren, Heather Suchobrus, Tiffany (Suchobrus) Koplan (Brett), Cole Suchobrus, Nick Korsh, Lenny Korsh, Tim Korsh, Anastasia Steger (Ron); (7) great grandchildren; Kyler, Isabella, Mathew, Sophia, Lydia, Jeremiah and Alexandria; and many, many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 9:00 AM, services at 10:00 AM will be held Saturday, January 12, at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. In lieu of flowers please bring and share your fond memories.
