Sharon L. Mahoney, 66, of Roscoe, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at home. Sharon was born on November 2, 1959, in Evanston, Illinois, to Dr. Joseph Winterhalter and Phoebe Winterhalter. She attended Dakota High School, where she made life-long friends and connections. After graduating early, she furthered her education at Rock Valley College, receiving an associate’s degree in fine arts. During this time, Sharon began her first and only job ever with Valspar in Rockford. She excelled in customer service, working her way into large client accounts as a brand manager. This area of her work introduced Sharon to her husband Ralph in 1985 and later marrying him on September 8, 1990.
Sharon was fiercely independent and had a wicked sense of humor to describe her in just a few words. Sharon thoroughly enjoyed traveling around the world, especially with a few good books beside her. She loved to paint and garden, but above all else she loved being a grandma. Her whole world changed when her granddaughter was born, as she retired so she never had to miss one thing.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 36 years, Ralph; daughters, Jennifer (Kris Fador) Beightley and Rachel (Adam) Moore; granddaughter, Addison Moore; 3 fur grandbabies, Leslie Knope, Ghost Adam, and Gidget Marie; siblings, Dorothy Winterhalter, Elizabeth Berkman, Paul Winterhalter, David Winterhalter, and John Winterhalter; step-brother, Dirk Wickens; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Joseph (Loretta) Winterhalter and Phoebe; brother, Michael Winterhalter; maternal and paternal grandparents; stepbrother, Jeff Wickens.
