Shirley Mae McFarlane

Shirley Mae McFarlane, 88, Rockford, passed away on May 25, 2013. She was born on December 18, 1924 in Rockford to Theodore and Ruby (Nordin) Lemke. She graduated from East High School in 1942 and married Wallace McFarlane in September, 1945. Wally passed away September 1970 and their only daughter, Trudy Detrich Schlaefli passed away in Switzerland in August, 2008.

She was a long time active member of Tabor Lutheran Church. For many years she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Rockford Public Schools. Shirley loved to travel, and enjoyed playing cards with her many friends.

She is survived by her sister in law, Shirley Lemke Ahrens; son in law, Peter Schlaefli; special cousins, Art Abel, Barbara Vogel, Janice York, and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Wally; parents, Theodore and Ruby; daughter, Trudy; and brothers, Donald, Gordon and Theodore R. Lemke.

A Funeral service will be held, 11am on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Reverend Jane McChesney will be officiating. Visitation will be from 10am to the time of service. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
