Shirley J. Rutherford

Shirley J. Rutherford, 90, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026. She was born December 25, 1935 in Ferndale, MI, the daughter of John and Alice (Duesling) Kolliker. Shirley worked at Midstates Screw in Rockford for 47 years. She married Willard Rutherford on March 26, 1956 in Ferndale, MI. Shirley enjoyed playing Bingo and playing the guitar. Most of all, she loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Shirley is survived by her children, Will (Deb Swinney) Rutherford, Jan (Jay) Lingel, Debbie Heckman and Wayne (Wendy) Rutherford; seven grandchildren, Brandi Scott, Jennifer Messenger, Jayme Lingel, Tiffany, Nicole, Kelli Wheeler, John Rutherford; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willard, son-in-law Ronald Heckman, siblings Raymond Kolliker, Ruth Kolliker, Marie Kolliker, John Kolliker, Charles Kolliker and Robert Kolliker.

A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m, Monday, June 1, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
