

Assunta “Susie” Calvanese, 83, of Rockford, left this earth Saturday, August 25, 2018. Born January 10, 1935 in Aragona, Sicily. Daughter of Vincenzo and Concetta (Cumbo) Seminerio. She lived in Rockford for 50 years coming from Aragona, Sicily where she married Vincenzo Calvanese on April 9, 1958. Gave birth to two sons, Frank and Maurice. She was employed by Nelson knitting as a sock maker and later promoted to machinist. In 1978 Susie went on to help her brothers Iggy and Carl and her son Frank operate Little Italy Restaurant in downtown Rockford. Susie then ventured on and opened Milan Gift Shop which she owned and operated until just a few years ago.
Susie was a devout catholic and a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Susie had an enormous love for God and her family! She also had a passion for cooking and baking... She would always want to feed you if you stopped in for a visit and if you weren’t hungry, you were eating anyway or taking it with you!
Survived by her sons, Frank (Anna) Calvanese, Maurice Calvanese; grandchildren, Vincenzo Calvanese, Gabriella Calvanese; sister, Paula Salamone; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Seminerio, Maria Seminerio; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Vincenzo Calvanese; brothers, Carl Seminerio, Iggy Seminerio, Albert Seminerio; brother-in-law, Pietro Salamone.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 1010 Ferguson St, Rockford. Father Jim Ciaramitaro is officiating.
