Taressa Annette Carter, age 62, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026. She was born September 2, 1963 in Rockford, Illinois to Donald and Nina (Perkins) Corder. Taressa married the love of her life, Michael Carter, on August 18, 1982 in Rochelle, Illinois. She worked for many years as a Store Manager.
Taressa loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was selfless, always making sure her family had everything they needed. She knew how to make anyone feel welcome. Her smile and laughter brought joy to everyone around her. She loved dogs, she and Michael rescued many dogs over the years and she cherished all of them. She enjoyed working in her garden, tending to her flowers, and cooking for her loved ones.
Taressa is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Carter; children, Heather (Tyrone Marshall) Carter, Jesse (Mariah Hada) Carter, and Ashleigh Geist; grandchildren, Neveah, David, Levi, and Kaysen; father, Donald Corder Sr; brother, Donald (Debra) Corder II; best friend, Carolyn Sue James; dogs, Mia, Lucy, Oreo, and Skittles; along with many friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Carter; mother, Nina Corder; and brother, Timothy Corder.
Visitation for Taressa will be held Monday, August 17 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Noah’s Ark.
