Toyoko (Matsunaga) Turner, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 20, 2020. She was born on March 2, 1933 in Goto Jima, Japan to Kokichi and Setsu Matsunaga. She spent her life as a devout Catholic, and her faith was her strength. Toyoko married the love of her life, Harry F. Turner on September 2, 1958. They spent nearly 58 years together in loving marriage, he predeceased her June 19, 2016. Toyoko was a devoted wife, mother, and obaba (Grandmother.) She made the clothes for her children and mended them with love. She taught her grandchildren about her culture, and always was there to support them. Birthdays in her family were special to Toyoko and always warranted a specific birthday dinner, which family knew to choose one of her specialty dishes. She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and mother, but for over 30 years after her children grew she worked as a salesperson for John Hancock Fabrics in Rockford. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children; Thomas (Ellen) Turner, Patricia (Brian) Bond, Alan Turner, Susan (Robert) Peets, and Dale Turner as well as her grandchildren, Amanda, Allison, Jake, Kyle, Brandon, Carrie, Kennedy, Haley and Taylor.
She is predeceased by her loving husband; Harry, as well as her parents; Kokichi and Setsu, she is also predeceased by a brother who passed in early childhood.
A limited walk thru visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park IL 61115. Beginning at 1PM and ending promptly at 2PM
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Jude's Children Hospital to be made in memory of Toyoko.
