

On Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, Troy Edwin Hensel, beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, co-worker, cousin (twin) passed away at the age of 58. Troy was born on December 17th, 1964, in Belvidere, Illinois to Sidney and Janice (Goebel) Hensel. Troy was an active child and kept his parents on their toes with his vivid imagination and storytelling. Troy was raised on Orion Street in Loves Park, IL where you would find him with the neighborhood kids playing baseball, football and water fights on the dead-end part of the street. In the summer over 4th of July you would find him and the Hensel Family up in Aitkin, Minnesota helping his grandparents with the farm, fishing and having fun at the 4th of July celebrations with his cousins. He attended Harlem High School before enlisting in The United States Army where he served as a cook at Fort Jackson Army Base in Columbia, South Carolina. After the military, he would be found cooking and managing at Taco Johns in the Rockford area. Then he went to truck driving school and was a truck driver for many years at various trucking companies. Then he was hired at Roehl Transport and became an orientation manager. He moved to Hammond Indiana and lived in a close-knit neighborhood with his dog Moo after accepting the position at Roehl Transport where he was employed for 16 years. He enjoyed teaching and helping new drivers learn and receive their CDL license. His co-workers shared that he always had a joke of the day for them. He liked to hear laughter.
Troy was preceded in death by his father, Sid. He is survived by his mother Jan and sister Retha (Andy) Elston and niece Christine and nephews Drew (Ashley) and Cody (Kori), 2 great nephews and a great niece and Troy’s beloved dog Moo.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, from 1pm until the time of service at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
