Vana Lee Miller (Pool), 89, of Rockford- Passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 and was united with her loving husband, Boyd in heaven. Born February 24, 1929, in Clarkton, MO, the daughter of John Ira and Alta Loretta (Millhouse) Pool. Loving mother of Narah Loretta Champion and dear grandmother of Christine Shurman. She was dearly loved and will be truly missed by all.
Vana arrived in Rockford in 1949, where she met the love of her life, Boyd Miller. They married on December 5, 1953, making their life in Brewster Heights subdivision in Rockford, IL. During her life, Vana supported many charitable and non-profit organizations; she also volunteered at numerous church activities and taught Sunday school for a number of years. Vana was also a Brownie Scout Troop Leader, was involved in the PTA, and was a Room Mother at Evergreen School. Vana enjoyed traveling in their van with her husband, Boyd and best friend, Rose, throughout the United States. Vana also loved sending cards and letters over the years to friends and relatives.
Survivors include her daughter, Narah Loretta (Robert) Champion; granddaughter, Christine (James) Shuman; great-granddaughter, Emma Shuman; best friend, Rose Koester. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Boyd Miller; her parents, John Ira and Alta Loretta Pool; and her brothers, William Arthur Pool, George Walter Pool and Charles Glen Pool.
A special thank you to her dear friend, Marion Minnick, for styling Vana’s hair every week for 45 years, and Carl and Norma Turman for their friendship over the years. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Herdeman, MD of Swedish American Medical Group; Caregiver, Toni Gassman; Hospice Care of America, and the entire staff at the Citadel at P.A. Peterson for the love, care and respect that was extended to Vana Lee Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a visitation at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.
