Wayne D Helmer

Wayne D. Helmer, 80, Machesney Park, Il died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Born May 16, 1936 in Marengo, Il to Donald and Blanche (Stockwell) Helmer. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Wayne was very skilled with his hands, a master mechanic, there wasn’t a challenge he couldn’t conquer. His family recognized his talents in fixing anything and he was eager to teach them everything he knew. Wayne applied his talents to his Scouts, and considered them more of a hobby than work. His signature was his handlebar mustache, always well maintained. He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan, never missing a game. Wayne gave his heart and soul to loving and caring for his family. He finally gets to meet his hero, the “Duke” John Wayne!

Survivors: wife, Judi; children, Michelle, Neal, Nick; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Predeceased by parents.
