Weiland H. Akerman Jr., 99, departed his earthly life surrounded by his loved ones at home in Winnebago on Oct 17. Born Sep 6, 1924 to Weiland Akerman Sr. and Margaret Myers Akerman in a 2-room cabin in Arbor Vitae, WI.
He graduated from Rockford East High in 1942 and University of Illinois in 1950. He fought in World War II in central Europe with the US Army 102nd Infantry Signal Corp "Ozarks." There in Germany he met Lucy Bunzel, whom he married in 1949 in Rockford. They settled in Cherry Valley, where they raised their family and he began his lifelong career as an engineer at Barber-Coleman.
He is survived by son Weiland Akerman III, daughter Deborah Akerman, grandchildren Samantha Akerman and Ian Storck, and son-in-law Reimund Storck.

Visitation will be Friday, November 17, 2023 from 3pm to 5pm at The United Lutheran Church located at 3630 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford IL. Private family graveside Committal at a later date.
