William A. Burgett, 88 formerly of Rockford, passed away on September 16, at Alden Valley Ridge Care Center in Bloomingdale. Born on June 26, 1925 in Minorca, AR, he was the son of Everett and Mabel (Eastwood) Burgett. On June26, 1948 he married Dorothy Randolph in Wilson, AR. As a U.S. Army Veteran, he served his country in the Philippines as a Longshoreman during WWII. In 1950 William moved to Rockford where he was employed as a tool-maker/machinist at Greenlee’s. After retirement in 1982 he moved to West Plains, MO where he lived for 22 years before returning to Rockford to be near family. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Burgett; daughters, Janet (Cloyd), and Judy (Dale deceased); son, Jack (Lesa); 5 grandchildren, Joe, Jeff, Jacob, Jon, and Marilyn; and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Friday, September 20, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road. Pastor Wendell Maynard officiating. Visitation, 9 a.m. to time of service. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, pleas contribute memorials to Visiting Nurses or Lifescape Community Services (Meals-on-Wheels), Rockford.
