

Rockford, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on March 1, 1921 in Rockford to Earl and Ada (Critchfield) Coleman. Married Marjorie E. Donovan on October 24, 1942 at St. James Catholic Church. Proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters as a sergeant in the 1303rd Army Corps of Engineers. Bill worked for Jones Transfer and Cooper Jarrett as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local 325 for 44 years. He was a devout Catholic and spent many hours working at Bishop Lane Retreat House, making Rosaries, Honor Guard for the Pilgrim Statue, and assisting Priests at Vianny Oaks. Bill was a lifelong Rockford resident and an avid Cubs and Bears Fan, faithfully waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. Active in Boy Scouts of America, achieving the Order of the Arrow (Vigil), Ad Altari Dei and St. George Medal.
He will be missed by his wife, Marjorie; his children, Michael (Tammy) Coleman of Rockford, Patricia (Dan) Britton of Rockford, Timothy (Catie) Coleman of Stillman Valley, Terrance Coleman of Rockford, Christina (Bob) Rementer of South Beloit, Kathleen (Sam) Lomas of Winnebago, Mary (Stewart) Peterson of Rockford; grandchildren, Dan Britton, Rick (Heidi) Britton, Shawn (Heather) Britton, Jenny (Chris) Kline, Kelly and Jacob Coleman, Anne and Rose Rementer, Steven and Rachel Peterson, Patrick, Matthew, Mitchell, Craig, Brianna, and Nick Lomas; 11 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents; sister, Lucille; brothers, John, Freeman, Carl, Paul, Romaine.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, February 23, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 North Alpine Rd., Machesney Park.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at St. Edward Church, 3026 11th St., Rockford. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family. Online condolences can be made at www.sunsetfhmemgardens.com
