Wilma D. Romine, 85, of Rockford, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Grand Regency of Rockford Supportive Living. Wilma was born to Lloyd and Hilda Hopkins in Doniphan, Missouri, on August 7, 1938. On February 6, 1956, in Arkansas, she married Billy Romine, who preceded her in death in 2015. In 1968, Billy and Wilma moved with their family to Rockford, and welcomed two more children, Scot and Larry. Raising five boys presented its own set of challenges. Wilma was determined to raise fine men in a tough world. She was a caring mother, who brought an endless amount of love to her family. She experienced heartbreak like no other when she was faced with losing two of her sons, Kevin and Larry, after Billy passed away.
Throughout her life, she loved to sing and dance. She especially loved dancing to country music, even more recently. She brought so much joy to the wonderful staff of the Grand Regency with her dancing. She also kept God close to her heart, and was proud to be a friend of his.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Lisa) Romine, Keith (Cheryl) Romine, and Scot (Melissa) Romine; grandchildren, Grant, Ashton, Sabrina, Kyle, Taylor, Tyler, and Ethan; many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; sons, Kevin Romine and Larry Romine; grandchild, Jared Romine; siblings, Donald Hopkins, Rosalie Jones, and Bob Hopkins; and survived by special sister, Norma Rorex.
