Andrew Whitaker Young, 86, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road with private interment held prior in Riverside Cemetery for family only. Rev. Parker Agnew will officiate. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 652 Mulberry Street, Macon 31201 or The Fran Branch Caregiver Endowment Fund, Piedmont Columbus Regional Foundation, 707 Center Street, Suite 100, Columbus, Georgia 31901.
Andy was born in Macon, Georgia on May 11, 1940. He was the son of the late Nancy Whitaker Young and William Lafayette Young and was preceded in death by his brother, Hal “Big Dog” Young. Andy was a graduate of Lanier High School in1958 and attended Marion Military Institute, Auburn University, and Mercer University. He began his distinguished business career in 1962 with Cornell-Young Company and retired in 2002. Andy held many leadership positions within the ready-mix concrete industry during his 40 year career. Upon retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing at Fernandina Beach and Lake Oconee and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a member of Idle Hour Golf & Country Club and the Macon Civic Club, and a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. He was also a “War Eagle” through and through.
Andy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pamela Watkins Young of Macon; children, Richard Young (Allison) of Macon, GA and Drew Young (Della) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Whit Young, Thomas Young (Alyssa), and Andrew Young (Nikki).
