Ann Bruner passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 after a courageous struggle with cancer. She and her husband, Rev. Dr. Jim Bruner have been married 61 years and have enjoyed an exciting and what she described as a blessed life. They married young, worked their way through college and seminary, raised a family, and built a rich life together. She was a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church.
Ann brought adventure and made new friends wherever she went. Ann blessed people with her wit, charm, and compassion. She was a committed believer in Christ and lived her life in accordance with her beliefs. Jim and Ann’s ministry took them to churches in Alabama, Indiana, Georgia, and Washington, DC. Ann owned Ann’s-tiques for over 25 years with shops in Macon and Highlands N.C. Ann traveled the world, over 30 countries, including the Holy Lands, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. During her struggle with cancer Ann was able to travel to China and New York. She loved the mountains and spent much of her time at Honeybear Mountain, a second home near Highlands NC.
Ann was born in Dothan Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Turner. She married Jim Bruner in 1952. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Jim Bruner; children, Steve Bruner of Roswell, GA, Dr. Phil Bruner of Jacksonville, FL, and Sheryl Ann Shepard of Tallahassee FL; six grandchildren, Stephen Bruner of Orlando, FL, Shelli Morrow of Birmingham, AL, Mitch Shepard of Tallahassee, FL, Ben Shepard of Tallahassee, FL, KiKi Bruner of Jacksonville, FL and Michelle Gray of Houston, TX; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Turner of Panama City, FL; and sister, Wynell Miller of Dothan, AL.
The funeral will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27 with Dr. Jake Hall officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, June 26 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Highland Hills Baptist Church. On Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. interment will be held at the Church of God Cemetery in Scaly Mountain, North Carolina. Serving as pallbearers are: James Stephen Bruner, Mike Morrow, Ben Shepard, Mitch Shepard, Al Williams, Bill Elliott, Dane Aldridge, Dr. Napp Grande, Jonathan Gray and Bill Miller.
