Betty McLure Drew, 90, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Snow's Memorial Chapel, Bass Road with the Reverend Russell Harper officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, private for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Point Church, 2963 Hollis Road, Macon, Georgia 31206.
Betty was born as one of thirteen children to the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McLure in Troy, Alabama. She moved to Macon in the early 1950s where she took a federal job in downtown Macon. There she met her future husband, the late Joseph H. Drew, Jr., a banker by trade. The couple married, started a family, and settled into the Macon community where Betty enjoyed the roles of wife, mother and homemaker. Always a giver, she enjoyed preparing meals for her family and sharing what she had with others.
A resident of Macon for many years, she was a member of High Point Church and worked as a counselor at Save-A-Life. After her husband died, she committed herself to seeking the joy in everyday life through studying the Bible. As a result, she wrote two books in hopes of encouraging others in their faith. Excited to share her faith with everyone she met, Betty led many to Christ over the years. She truly wanted others to know her Savior and experience His love and peace.
She is survived by her children, Jan Harper (Russell) of Fairview, NC; Joe H. Drew, Jr. (Pam) of Macon, and Jennifer Fennell (Bruce) of Lebanon, TN; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Alice Jump (Billy) of Milledgeville; and several nieces and nephews.
