The children of Betty Stokes Hamlin announce that their mother stepped out of her Earthly body and was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 7, 2024, after an extended illness. A private celebration of life, to be announced by the family, will take place on July 20, 2024.
Mama had an unwavering faith in God. Next to her family, Mama most loved her church which was a significant part of her life until she became unable to attend. She was always a leader in her church and, over the many years, organized numerous volunteer groups to provide for others. It was through this love that her home frequently created a safe haven for extended family and friends. Mama will be remembered for her creative and expert sewing skills, for whom countless benefited, and Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners with dessert buffets that remain legendary! She loved to read, she loved her garden and she loved the beach!
Mama was the oldest of twelve born to Oma and Clifford Fullmore on May 3, 1934 and is survived by her children, Dallas Stokes (Toni) of East Bend, NC, Kathy Batchelor (John) of Macon GA, Karen Stokes of Macon GA, and Julie Stuart (Stan) of Smarr GA. She is survived by five grandchildren: Johnny Cramer, Rebecca Mathis (Daniel), Nicole Houck, Jessica Branson (Allen), Joshua Cox and nine great-grandchildren: Ethan & Ashley Houck, Anberlin Winters, Madeline, Meghan, Marley & Marissa Mathis, and Brenndon & Ansley Branson and Josie & Jett Cox. Mama leaves behind four siblings: Cliff Fullmore of Eatonton, Abbie Fullmore (Laura) of Micanopy, Florida, Randy Fullmore of Warner Robins and Hope Pittman (Butch) of Kathleen. Mama has many special nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Mama is preceded in death by her husband and father to her children, William “Buddy” Stokes and husband, William Hamlin; one grandson: Clint Stokes; siblings: Jo Cummings, Julian Fullmore, Patricia Jackson, Brenda Crider, Dorothy Payne, Joyce Chapman, and Billy Fullmore.
To honor mama’s memory, we ask that you donate the greatest gift; your time. Do what mama would do; visit someone who is lonely, take a gift or perform a task for a person in need, bake an unexpected treat for someone and just spend time with those you love.
We’d like to thank all her family and friends who visited and spent time with mama while in care. We would also like to thank the staff of Pruitt/Peake Health and Pruitt Health Hospice for the care, encouragement and support provided during this time.
