Beverly Vinson Wilson passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at a local hospital. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Liberty United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Anthony will officiate. Members of the Lucy Young Sunday School Class are asked to sit as a group during the service. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday at Liberty United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Church Bereavement Committee, 6511 Houston Road, Macon, GA 31216.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Byron, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Vinson, Jr. and Julia Calhoun Vinson. She had lived in Macon most of her life and was a graduate of Heard Elementary School, a 1954 graduate of Miller High School and a graduate of North Georgia College in 1958. Mrs. Wilson taught fifth and seventh grades at Heard Elementary and then taught at the Little School Kindergarten on Liberty Church Road for many years. Mrs. Wilson served as PTA President at Heard Elementary School during the 1970s. She was an active member of Porterfield Garden Club.
At Liberty United Methodist Church where she was a devoted member, she served as Acolyte Committee Chair and then as Worship Chair. She led the Bereavement Committee since its inception and was a member of the Lucy Young Sunday School Class. In 1957, Mrs. Wilson served as Counselor at Epworth by the Sea Youth Camp and attended MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship). Growing up at Liberty, she loved her church family and loved her many friends there. She was an avid lover of blue birds and butterflies and loved family mountain vacations.
She is survived by family, her husband of sixty years, Reggie Wilson; her daughters, Jane Stoner (Blake) and Anne McGee; her two precious granddaughters, Julia Stoner and Emily McGee; her aunt, Mary Sue Wagner; her sister-in-law, Mary Lewis and numerous cousins.
