Billy Rees

Willard Andrew (Billy) Rees, 90, formerly of Preston and Albany, and a resident of Macon for the last 20 years, died Saturday, January 5, in Macon.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, at 11 am at Preston Cemetery in Preston, GA, with the Reverend Herbert Williams officiating. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends will gather afterward at Preston Baptist Church.

Mr. Rees was retired from a career in the trucking and logging industries. He supported his community through his church, civic activities, and interest in political work in the state. His lifelong interest in politics was sparked by his year in Washington, DC as a page in the U.S. Congress during his senior year of high school in 1945.

He will be greatly missed by the family who meant everything to him. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Tate of Macon, Kathy and Jim Culpepper of Atlanta, and Tony Kennedy of Weston; his nine grandchildren, Andy Wills (Melanie) of Greenville, SC, Derek Kennedy (Mary) of Pine Mountain, Susan Boyer (Russell) of Monroe, Ben Wills (Stephanie) of Philadelphia, PA, Jeremy Kennedy (Kimberly) of Preston, Julie Lawrence (Josh) of LaGrange, Rees Culpepper (Hope) of Atlanta, Sam Culpepper (Ellen) of Decatur, and James Culpepper (Becca) of Decatur; his eighteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Jane Bryant of Leesburg, FL, his sister-in-law, Claire Rees of Preston, and his nieces, Becky Binneveld, Barbara Bowen, Cheryl Rees, and Rhonda Holbrook.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen Rees, his daughter, Peg Kennedy, his brother, Jimmy Rees, his brother-in-law, Jack Bryant, and his son-in-law, Julian Tate.
