Rev. Carl Anderson Byrd, 87, died on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Porterfield Health and Rehab in Macon. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 18th at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church with the Reverend David Mosely, Rev. Hershel Sizemore and Rev. Brad Marchman officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday, June 17th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono. Rev. Byrd was born in Macon, to the late Mary Zelma Brantley Byrd and Oscar Byrd. He was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church. Rev. Byrd was a former Mason and a former member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. Rev. Byrd had been in the ministry for 55 years, having served in the Macon Baptist Association, the Rehobeth Baptist Association and the Ebenezer Baptist Association. He had worked at Robins Air Force Base, was formerly employed at Hart’s and Crest Lawn Funeral Homes as a chaplain, and formerly a fireman with the Macon-Bibb Co. Fire Department and had served as a bailiff with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department. He served with the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and attended Mercer University.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Aline T. Byrd of Macon; two daughters, Carlene (Paul) Hibbitts of Warner Robins and Karen (Scott) Bryan of Macon; 4 grandchildren, Paul (Jamie) Hibbitts, Jr., Jeff (Kellie) Hibbitts, James Bryan, Jr. and Emily (Brandon) Bryan; 5 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Trevor, Ryder, Walker and Avery Laine; a sister, Eloise Byrd Tharpe of Cary, Georgia ; many nieces and nephews and his constant companion, his dog, Bandit.
