Carroll Holt Greer

Carroll grew up in Macon where she graduated from Miller High School. During her junior and senior years, she wrote a tri-weekly column for the Macon Evening News. She sang her way through high school, taking the lead in operettas and winning first place awards in local, state, and regional contests. She continued her love for music at Sullins College in Bristol Virginia and finally at the University of Georgia where she graduated with a BFA degree in music. While at Georgia she was the featured soloist with men and women's combined glee clubs and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority. She was also a member of Phi Mu Sorority and after graduation became the first president of the Macon Alumnae Chapter of Phi Mu.

Carroll was a classroom teacher in Bibb County and Fulton County and Public School Music Supervisor in Elbert County. She and her husband Jim owned and operated retail clothing and bridal stores in Athens and Atlanta. She was a member of the Fashion Group of Atlanta and was an instructor at Bauder Fashion College where she also served as Chairperson of the Fashion Merchandising Department.

In her later years, Carroll moved back home to Macon to Carlyle Place where she rekindled old relationships and was actively engaged in Bible Study groups.

Carroll is preceded in death by her parents, Melva and Hamilton Holt and her husband, Jim Greer of Cordele. Carroll is survived by her children Robert Holt Greer, Laura Greer Homer (Fletch), Carlton Greer (Debbie), grandchildren Hal and Greer Homer, Clark (Tish) and Kristy Greer, and great grandchildren Jayce and Jaylynn Greer.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Beth Yeshua Macon with Rabbi Greg Hershberg officiating with a reception immediately following at Carlyle Place.
