Charles Augustus "Gus" Rice Jr.

Charles Augustus “Gus” Rice, Jr., 84, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Forest Hills United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors. Rev. Baxter Hurley and Rev. Teresa Edwards will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM Friday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1217 Forest Hills Drive, Macon 31210.

Mr. Rice was born in Macon, the son of the late Sara Shaw Rice and Charles Augustus Rice. He was a graduate of Mercer University where he played on the Tennis Team and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Rice was a former bank officer having worked for C & S Bank, First National Bank, Sun Trust Bank and Great Southern Federal. He was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist church where he taught and was a member of the Faithful Friends Sunday School Class. Mr. Rice was an avid golfer and a member of the Macon Exchange Club, having served as president and many other elected offices. He was preceded in death by his brother, Col. William H. Rice, USMC.

Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Willie Williams Rice of Macon; daughter, Cathy Rice Jones and her husband, Verlin Jr. of Vienna; grandchildren, C. Todd Jones and his wife, Michelle, and A. Elizabeth Jones; great-grandson, Jackson Jones; sister, Joyce Rice Ellison and her husband, Charles L., Jr.; a number of nieces and nephews.
