Charlotte Yaeger Hope, 75, was a collector of marvelous things and people. Artist, epicure, treasure hunter, and flower enthusiast, she made her final farewell on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at home with her husband and daughter. Born in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Henry Jackson Yaeger and wife Jane Arnold Yaeger, she excelled at most creative endeavors, graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts after studying abroad in Florence, Italy, an experience that changed her life. In 1972 she married Thomas Hope, and the couple moved to Macon in 1980, attracted by the historic houses, rich culture and blossoming art scene.
Charlotte was known by all for her gentle nature, inviting smile, and social grace. She had a quiet love of all things delicate and beautiful, finding joy in exquisite insects, vintage wind-up toys, cappuccinos in bed, cloud shapes, children’s book illustrations, dainty sea shells, and undeserving yet hopelessly lovable pets. Generous with both her time and talents, Ms. Hope was active in several local boards and committees, always ready to lend a helping hand to a friend or colleague.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Tom Hope who she adored to the end, daughter Sarah Hope, sister Sally Brookes, several nieces and nephews, dogs Stella and Juliet, and one obscenely large but true to form cat, Gerry. Her creative spirit lives on in everyone who knew her well. A private service for family and close friends will be held at her home, a monument to her exceptional taste and curatorial talents. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Museum of Arts and Sciences, or Macon Arts Alliance, in support of arts programming.
