

Chris Hornsby, 66, died Sunday at his residence. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Forest Hills United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Blankenship and the Rev. Dianne Sweckard will officiate. Burial will be private for the family. The family will meet friends from 12:30 PM until 1:45PM in the Christian Life Center of Forest Hills United Methodist Church. The family requests that donations be made to Little Carnegie of the South, 1954 Forsyth Street, Macon, Georgia 31201 or to the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, 1280 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.
Chris was born in Atlanta and had lived in Macon most of his life. He was the son of the late Ouida Shivers Hornsby. Chris was educated in Atlanta Public Schools, received his BA degree from the University of Georgia and his Master’s degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta. Chris was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during the Viet Nam conflict. Chris, a true man of God, ministered through his music for over 50 years beginning when he was 12 years old. He was a retired teacher of music and special education, retiring from Howard Middle School. He was a member of the American Organ Guild and the Atlanta Symphony Chorus. Chris was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Hornsby Cohen in 2005 and his wife, Cynthia Wright Hornsby in 2012.
Chris is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Hornsby Roddy and Joey Roddy of Forsyth; six grandchildren, Jason Willis, Andy Houser, Alex Cohen, Amanda Cohen, Brendan Shuman, and Hannah Shuman; three great grandchildren, Emma Cohen, Christopher Willis and James Patrick Houser; his father, A.T. Hornsby of Cumming, and a sister Carol O’Neal of Cumming. Chris is also survived by a special cousin, Dianne Cowan of Smyrna, a niece, Jenny Bryant of Ballground, GA, and a nephew Scott Cowan of Smyrna.
