Claude was born October 17, 1924 in the family home on Ell Street. He was welcomed to the family as “baby brother” by his two older sisters, Margaret and Murrel. After graduating from Lanier High School he was drafted into the Army and taken to Texas for boot camp. After returning to Macon Claude went to work for Robins Air Force Base where he continued faithfully for 40 years, rising to Head the Drafting Department and monitoring the air force planes stress recorders. After retiring from Robins Air Force Base, Claude went to work for Snow’s Memorial Chapel Funeral Home serving for 15 years. Claude’s wife of over 50 years, the late Georgia Jones Sellers, had help prepare him for the more formal dress of a funeral service associate by telling him on their second date, “Claude if you are going to be seen with me in public, then you will wear a dress shirt and tie.” Claude was a faithful member of the Macon-Wimbish Road Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was a particularly strong supporter of the church’s small elementary school.
Claude and Georgia had no children, therefore his surviving relatives include his older sister Margaret Sellers Mapin of Macon and her son, Claude’s nephew, Gary Mapin of Franklin, Tennessee, his two children, grand niece and grand nephew, Hillary and Garret Mapin, also of Franklin.
