A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 11AM. Burial will be private.
Don was born in Buchanan, Georgia to the late George W. Phillips and Agnes Buford Phillips. He was a graduate of Buchanan High School and later attended LaGrange College as well as Troup Technical School in LaGrange, and lastly, Auburn University, pursuing a degree in Textile Technology. Don was a Private, 1st Class of the United States Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division from 1960 until 1963.
Don's textile career began with Callaway Mills and The Milliken Company in LaGrange, Georgia from 1964 to 1972. Later that same year, he joined the Bibb Company in Macon, Georgia as Director of Quality Control in the Consumer Products Division until 1985. He ultimately became president and co-owner of Virginia Hall, Inc. until his retirement in 1996.
Don was a member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, often serving as an usher. He enjoyed golfing. Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Phillips; and a sister, Faye Trull.
Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ellen Armstrong Phillips; son, Zachery Lee Phillips of Asheville, North Carolina; brother, Jack Phillips (Patti) of Birmingham, Alabama; uncle, Charles Buford of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother in law, Jerry Armstrong (Lydia); cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
