

Dorothy “Dot” Smith, a native of Atlanta and a longtime resident of Macon died April 11, 2011 after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, Georgia. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, which will be officiated by Reverend John Sawyer. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Smith was born on October 19, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia to Joel Daniel and Evia Blalock Daniel of Atlanta. Raised in Atlanta, she graduated from Girls High and attended Mercer University. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by both her parents and her husband George Brown “Bill” Smith, Jr.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Nancy Gail Smith Walker and her husband Kenny of Macon; her son, George Brown Smith III and his wife Judy of Macon; and her daughter, Catherine Anne Smith Train and her husband Kirk of Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Smith is survived by her six grandchildren, Amanda Leigh Walker Cochran (David) of Thomasville, Georgia; Stuart Ellis Walker (Brandon) of Macon; Horace Matthew Smith of Macon; Ashley Michelle Smith Johnson (Justin) of Macon; Kelley Elizabeth Train of New York City, New York; and LT Samuel Kirk Train, USN (Francesca) of Newport, Rhode Island. She is also survived by her brother, Joel Lynn Daniel (Karel) and her niece, Darcy Daniel of Jacksonville, Florida; her dear friend and sister-in-law, Diane Brown Smith of Norcross, Georgia; and her six great-grandchildren, Maylon Cochran, Carson Cochran, Emory Cochran, Sarah Ellis Walker, Kinsley Johnson, and Cole Johnson.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and through the years was active in a number of civic organizations, including the Macon Service League, P.E.O, Macon Junior Woman’s Club, and Easter Seals of Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Loaves and Fishes Ministry, 651 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Macon, Georgia 31201; Northminster Presbyterian Church; or to the donor’s favorite charity.
