As the daughter of a Methodist minister, she had the opportunity to grow up in a number of South Georgia towns, including Macon, where she met her future husband, Cubbedge Snow, Jr.
Edyth graduated from A.L. Miller High School in 1946, attended Mercer University, and received a B.S. degree in nursing from Emory University. She later taught at the former Macon Hospital School of Nursing.
Edyth and Cubbedge married in 1951 and soon began a life filled with family, community, and adventure. After retiring from nursing to raise their three children, Edyth devoted herself to her family and community. She and Cubbedge traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad, sharing many adventures over the years, including water skiing, snow skiing, and SCUBA diving.
Edyth was an active volunteer and served as President of the Junior League of Macon, Hill & Dale Garden Club, and the Middle Georgia Historical Society, now the Historic Macon Foundation. She also served on the boards of the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Macon Health Club.
A lifelong member of Mulberry Methodist Church, Edyth served on the Official Board, as Superintendent of the Children’s Department, and as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Joy Class and Esther Circle and volunteered in the Historical Room.
Edyth was creative and talented. She learned to sew at an early age on her mother’s foot-pedal Singer sewing machine and went on to make clothing and other special things for herself, her children, and grandchildren, as well as for her home. She treasured the friendships she developed through her Bridge Club and “Sewing Club,” both of which she belonged to for more than 50 years.
Edyth was admired by her friends and family for her loyalty, pragmatism, and hard work. She had a great sense of style, always had a smile on her face, and tried to make the best of every situation.
In addition to her parents, Edyth was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles R. McKibben, Jr. and Malvin McKibben; Charles’s wife, Catherine; her husband of 66 years, Cubbedge Snow, Jr.; and Cubbedge’s sister and brother-in-law, Cater and Henry Clay.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Laine Snow Gerritsen (Greg) of Boulder, Colorado; Cubbedge Snow III (Courtney); and Charles Snow, both of Macon; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Sally McKibben of North Augusta, South Carolina, Malvin’s wife.
