Elbert Hines Parker

ELBERT HINES PARKER of Gray, age 80, passed away on March 1, 2013 in Macon at a local hospital. Mr. Parker was born on March 26, 1932, in Taylor County, Georgia, but lived most of his life in Gray.

He was a son of Alton Brown Parker and Sara Sanders Parker Mitchell, and had three brothers, Leonard Parker, James Parker and Gene Parker, all of whom predeceased him.

He is a graduate of the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. He served in the National Guard, and in 1993, after 40 years of service, he retired from the Georgia Kraft Company (Riverwood International), where he started work at age 17. He also raised cattle and oversaw the family's farms in Jones County.

He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cars and watching sports. He also loved animals including his favorite cat, Samson. Over the years, he was an active member of the Georgia Cattleman's Association and the Jones County Farm Bureau. He closely followed the activities of his granddaughter Mary Parker Davis at Stratford Academy and later at the University of Georgia.

His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bebe Roberts Parker, two daughters, Stephanie Ethel Parker (James Nobles) of Atlanta and Beth Parker Davis of Macon, and one grandchild, Mary Parker Davis (Beth's daughter). He is also survived by his sister Sara Nan Parker Oppenheim (William) of Dunedin, Florida and his aunt Nora Sanders Ball of Jackson, Georgia.

Mr. Parker's family would like to thank his dedicated caregiver, Beverly Harvey, for her love and devotion.

In lieu of flowers, for those who may wish to do so, memorial contributions may be made to FurEver Friends Humane Society, Inc., Post Office Box 2276, Gray, Georgia 31032.

Graveside services will be held at the Juhan - Moore Family Cemetery on Moore Road in Jones County on Sunday, March 3, at 2:30 pm. Rev. Jimmy Duke will officiate. The family will be at the residence of his daughter, Beth Parker Davis, at 489 Yorkshire Drive in Macon.

Beth and Mary Parker,
I had no idea that your dad had past away this year! I don't get the newspaper. I'm so very sorry for your loss! I know how much you loved your daddy. I pray that very soon all your precious memories of him will bring you comfort. You know all the Bensons love you and MP so much!
