Born November 18,1935 in Macon, GA to Norman and Mary Thompson, Eleanor graduated from Miller High School, attended Wesleyan College, and pursued extended studies in Library Science at Georgia College in Milledgeville, University of Cincinnati, and Macon State College. Eleanor began her career with Middle Georgia Regional Library in 1970, retiring as Head Librarian of the Riverside Library in 2000. She served on the boards of the Middle Georgia Girl Scouts Council and the Macon chapter of the American Red Cross and was a charter member of the House and Garden Club of Macon, serving as President for two terms.
Eleanor enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing clothes (especially when her grandchildren were young), attending The Masters golf tournament for many years, and watching golf on TV. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Macon and began every day with Bible study and a devotional.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thurston D. Futch, Jr., in 2003. She remarried Donald I. Rosen, Sr. in 2005, and they enjoyed almost 10 years of companionship and travel together until his death in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother Russell Thompson. Eleanor is survived by her children Jeannie Futch Lewis (Sam), Laurie Futch Chapman (Rusty), and Trey Futch (Sandy). She will always be known and loved as “Gaga” by her grandchildren Holly Lewis Heller, Suzanne Lewis Reinstra, Brannen Chapman, Mitchell Chapman, Eleanor Futch Quick, Sara Futch, and Jack Futch, as well as her seven great-grandchildren, with an eighth arriving soon.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Carlyle Place for the love and care provided over the years, and the compassionate staff at Pine Pointe Hospice for their support in the final days.
Memorial gifts may be given to Friends of the Library of Macon-Bibb County, First Presbyterian Church of Macon (Deacons’ Fund), First Presbyterian Day School, or New Heights Church of Macon.
