Elise G. Stevens

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in the chapel of Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, with Jay Stevens and Caleb Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mikado Baptist Church, 6751 Houston Road, Macon, GA 31216.

Born in Mt. Vernon, Georgia, Elise was the daughter of the late Columbus L. Gillis and Maebelle Sharpe Gillis. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James M. Stevens, and by her siblings, Helen Fowler, Willie Lee Potts, Cecil Gillis, Jewell McCook, Jack Gillis, and Bobby Gillis.

Elise was educated in the Montgomery County School System before attending G.A.B. Business College in Macon. She later retired from Macon Northside Hospital after many years of faithful and dedicated service. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she was a faithful, longtime member of Mikado Baptist Church, where her quiet faith, servant’s heart, and love for others were evident throughout her life.

Elise will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and deep love for her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great grandmother, caring sister, and treasured aunt. Her kindness, grace, steadfast devotion, and quiet strength touched the lives of all who knew her. She lived a life marked by humility, compassion, and an abiding trust in God’s faithfulness, leaving a legacy that will continue through the generations she loved so dearly.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Elise’s devoted caregivers, Mary Deshazer and Janice Bunting, for their compassionate care, faithful friendship, and loving support.

She leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her love, her example, and her unwavering faith, including her sons, Larry (Lynn) Stevens of Marietta, Georgia, Mark (Deborah) Stevens of Macon, Georgia, and Neil (Tricia) Stevens of Athens, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jay (Christy) Stevens, Keri Lynn (Peter) Lurtz, Monica (Chris) Kirby, Molly (Ashlee) Stevens Lawson, Caleb (Grace) Stevens, and Colin (Sarah) Stevens; her great grandchildren, James Stevens, Garrett (Samantha) Stevens, Alexandra and Isabella Lurtz, Greyson Ramsey, Pippa Kirby, Waters and Birdie Stevens Lawson, Wesley Stevens, Micah Stevens, and Ellie Stevens; her sister, Flo (Harold) Keys; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Above all, Elise’s greatest joy was her relationship with Jesus Christ. She lived each day with the quiet confidence that her hope was found in Him alone. While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Savior, where faith has become sight and every tear has been wiped away. Her faith was her greatest legacy, and her family gives thanks to God for the example she leaves behind.
