

Jane Elizabeth Bishop Conner, known as “Petie” to friends and family, passed from this life to eternal life with Jesus Christ on November 19, 2017, of her 100th year. Mrs. Conner was born in Washington, D.C. on March 9, 1918 to Dr. Harry A. and Roberta Morgan Bishop. She was blessed with an older sister, Eleanor (Chicha), and younger brother, Harry, both of whom she dearly loved. She attended the University of Maryland, and Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She soon met the love of her life, Castex Conner, a West Point graduate. Smitten by Petie’s beauty and bubbling personality, Cas soon proposed. They were married in 1939 at the Fort Sam Houston Chapel. The Air Force life brought them to Robins Air Force Base in 1960. In 1964, Petie and her family transitioned to civilian life, putting down permanent roots in Macon. Petie was actively involved in parish life at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and in supporting her children’s activities at St. Joseph Catholic School and Mt. De Sales Academy. She was past president of St. Joseph’s Council of Catholic Women and St. Joseph’s Home and School Association. She was a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph’s Church and a former Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. Mrs. Conner was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and several health agencies. She was a life member of Idle Hour Ladies’ Golf Association, former member of Robins AFB Ladies’ Golf Association, Bowden Ladies’ Golf Association, and Georgia State Senior Women’s Golf Association. She competed in golf tournaments throughout the Middle Georgia area and was co-champion of the Georgia State Senior Women’s Golf tournament in 1988. She joined the Hole in One elites on September 23, 1962.
Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and her son Donald M. Conner. Those left to cherish her memory are her other children, Castex Conner Jr (Judy) of San Antonio, TX; David Conner of Macon; William Conner (Mary Charles) of Rome, GA; daughter-in-law Carol Conner of Atlanta; Robert Conner (Patricia) of Charlottesville, VA; Jane Conner Pinkham of Lexington, SC; Jean Conner Dempsey (Kenny) of Mobile, AL; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 22 at 11 a.m., with Fr. William McIntyre presiding. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be prayed at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street on Tuesday, November 21 at 5 p.m.; with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Glenmary Home Missioners, Donor Service, 4119 Glenmary Trace, Fairfield, OH 45014 which was founded by her uncle, Father William Howard Bishop in 1939.
