

Elizabeth Collins Yates passed away on Friday, January 11, at The Cottages at Wesleyan. Her funeral service will be at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street on Thursday, January 16 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Steve Waldorf officiating. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time. A private burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park, for family only. The family requests that donations be made to Heartland Hospice, 115 Arkwright Landing, Macon, 31210 or All About Animals, 101 Riverside Drive, Macon, 31201.
Mrs. Yates was born in Athens, GA on May 24, 1924 to Virginia Moseman Collins and Lawrence Collins, Sr. Elizabeth spent all of her school years in Athens and after graduation moved to Macon to work at the Naval Ordnance Plant during World War II. Later she was employed at the Citizens & Southern National Bank where she worked until her retirement. She was married to the love of her life, James W. Yates, Sr. for 37 years until his death in 1984. Elizabeth was a member of Riverside Methodist Church and was also very active in the Sonta Club for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elizabeth was caregiver to her youngest brother, Kyle, for many years until his death. Her son, Jimmy Yates, Jr. had MS as a young adult and she lovingly assisted in his care through the years. Her grandson, Steve Yates was her soul mate and fishing buddy and many happy hours were spent together.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Willis, Lawrence Jr., Walter, John, Mayne and Kyle of Athens, GA and her husband, James W. Yates, Sr and son Jimmy Yates, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandson, Steve W. (Kate) Yates, daughter-in-law, Joye T. (Carl) Hadarits and great-grandchildren Alyson, Sean and Tyler; extended family, Connie, Loretta, David and Carol, Thom and Janet Pinkston; also nieces and nephews and last but not least her beloved Jack Russell, Miss Pinky.
Our family would like to say thank you to all of the staff at The Cottages at Wesleyan for their wonderful and kind care Elizabeth received for the last three years. Heartland Hospice were our angels and were there in our time of need and thank you Nurse Virginia. A special word of gratitude to her devoted companions and the love and care you gave, Sheila, Porcha, Mahogany and Denise. We are so grateful for the 89 years we shared and all the memories we will have forever.
