

MACON - Dr. George A. Hanse, III died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his residence. Graveside services for Dr. Hanse, a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, will be held at Riverside Cemetery North Gate on Tuesday, March 15, at 11A.M., with Dr. Marcus Tripp and Rev. James Duke presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to Vineville United Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the residence.
A life-long resident of Macon, he was the second of four sons born to C.F., Sr. and Gladys Hicks Hanse. He attended Joseph Clisby Elementary School with the girl who would become his future wife and graduated from Lanier High School where he was a member of the Marching Band. After graduation he volunteered for military service in the U.S. Army and was stationed with the Heavy Tank Division in Ft. Lewis, Washington. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he entered Emory University in Atlanta to attain his undergraduate degree. He then entered Emory University School of Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
He and his wife, also a dentist, opened their office in Warner Robins, GA, where they practiced for many years as one of the first husband/wife dental teams in the state. In his years of service to his profession, Dr. Hanse was a member of various professional organizations, among them, the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Society, and the Houston County Dental Society. He was widely known and respected as a kind and gentle man who was devoted to his profession and his patients.
After his retirement, he became an Ambassador for Eastern Airlines, traveling throughout the world to promote flying. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports fishing and was passionate about gardening, sharing his prized tomatoes with friends and neighbors.
The quiet and modest personality of Dr. Hanse reveals a man who lived life to the fullest and touched many lives. He was devoted to his family, loyal and generous with his friends, and kind, thoughtful, and courteous to everyone.
Dr. Hanse was preceded in death by brothers, C.F. Hanse, Jr. and William Leroy Hanse. In addition to his wife, Anne ("Muffy"), he is survived by sons, William C. Hanse of Juliette, and George A. Hanse, IV and his wife Pamela of Macon; a beloved granddaughter, Holly Lane Hanse of Macon; a brother, Charles T. Hanse and his wife Genene of Lizella, and several nephews and nieces. -Dr. Hanse's family wishes to thank those from all walks of life who made the road easier - friends, strangers, members of the medical community, and countless others. Their compassion, commitment, expertise, and caring will be forever cherished.
