George "Ed" Edward Markwalter

Ed was born in Macon, GA on January 18, 1935, to George Edward and Theresa Robider Markwalter. He was the devoted husband of Lucy Webb Markwalter for 67 years.

Growing up in Macon, Ed attended St Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Lanier Senior High School with honors in 1952. He earned his Eagle Scout Rank with Troop 5. Ed was active in ROTC at Lanier and Georgia Tech where he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in 1956. The following year he married Lucy, and they headed to Texas where he earned his pilot’s wings. Ed served in the Orientation Group out of Wright Patterson AFB. He spent his Air Force career flying and promoting the Air Force at exhibitions and air shows around the world.

Ed and Lucy moved back to Macon in 1958 where he started his professional career working for Strietmann Biscuit Company which became Keebler. He transitioned to the kaolin industry where he became a licensed professional engineer. He spent the majority of his career as a senior project engineer with Engelhard Minerals and Chemicals retiring in 1997.

Eddie, as he was known to friends, was a ‘heluva engineer’ who was always ready to help others fix anything. He had all the tools and the pickup truck ready to go. He was an avid outdoorsman, craftsman, amazing woodworker, cook and giver of advice. He showed his love through acts of service.

He is survived by his children Kathryn Carpenter (Walter), Lynn Rostvold (Mark), Andrea Lavoie (Anthony), and Brian Markwalter (Holland); grandchildren Carson (Sarah), Peirce (Rebekah), Kathryn, Ellen (Coy), Corwin, Chester (Kelly), Daniel (Christine), Kyle (Gabriela), Theresa, and nine great-grandchildren, his sisters in law and several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard “Dick” Markwalter, Robider “Robie” Markwalter, and Raphael “Ray” Markwalter.

The family would like to thank his caregiver, Cherry Causey, for her kind and compassionate care. Her support was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
