Holst Clay Beall, Jr. was born on June 21st 1935 to the late Holst C Beall Sr and Mary Lou Horton Beall. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Dennis John Flanagan Beall and his Aunt Sister Miriam Beall. From his birth during the Great Depression to his peaceful passing during a Global Pandemic he was a friend to many, worked in a truly diverse number of businesses, was devoted to his Church, and most importantly a loving Son, Husband, Father, Uncle, and, Grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Vida Gentry Beall. His eldest son Holst Clay Beall, III (Patricia) grandchildren Logan, Avery, Riley, and Maci. His youngest son James Linwood Gentry Beall (Ann) grandchildren Joyce Evelyn, Mary Lin, and Joshua. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Edwina Beall and her daughters Denise Fritze (Jamie) and Margaret Cohen (Jeffery).
He started his early education under the tutelage of the nuns of St. Joseph Catholic School and proceeded to attend Lanier High School where he graduated with honors in 1953. From there he went to Georgia Tech then transferred to Mercer University where he graduated in 1957. While attending Mercer he joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and met many lifelong friends. He even managed to hire James Brown and his band to play at a fraternity party. Before he even graduated high school he had started his work career for the Flanagan’s Motor Court and later was co-owner of the Mansion Hotel on Coleman Hill. He then worked for Beall Oil Company and delivered gas and owned a service station while also serving in the US Naval Reserve.. After graduating from the Georgia Bankers School at the University of Georgia in 1963 he became the Senior Vice President of the Peoples Bank & Trust Co until he sold it in 1974. He then switched careers to be the owner of Banner True Value Hardware. When he sold that business he started his final business Herbas Associates which later became Beall Financial Planning where he worked until 2014.
In addition to his many business ventures he was a member of the Elks Club, The Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He briefly worked with Representative Billy Evans and drove Jimmy Carter around the state of Georgia when he was running for Governor. He was devoted to his faith. He worked on various projects for Bishop McDonough, Bishop Lessard, and Bishop Boland of the Diocese of Savannah. He was a financial advisor to many of the pastors of St.Joseph Church, St. Peter Claver Church, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He served on many boards and projects for the Catholic Schools and Churches of Macon. What he really loved in addition to his family was boats, travelling, history, and talking to people. He truly loved just talking to people and being their friend.
He passed away peacefully on August 22. A Rosary and Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28th at 6:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. His Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by a Family only graveside service. His honorary pallbearers are Walter Timley, Billy Barnes, John Wolfenbarger, Doug Skelton, Robert Hurley and Harry Webb. For attendance to the Mass or Rosary, masks are required as well as social distancing. Only 100 guests will be allowed at either of the services.
