Ret. MSgt. Howard Kenneth Genthner, 83, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Andersonville National Cemetery with William Averett officiating and with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, 3343 Peachtree Road, N.E. #M2O, Atlanta, GA 30326.
Ret. MSgt. Genthner was born in Washington, DC the son of the late Phillip Howard Genthner and Marjorie Rowell Genthner. He served with the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and retired after twenty-two and a half years of service. He then retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad after seventeen and a half years. Ret. MSgt. Genthner was an avid woodworker and was of the Protestant Faith. He was an Honorable First Sergeant of the Black Knights. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Genthner and by his son, Michael Genthner and six of his siblings.
Survivors include his devoted family, his wife of sixty-one years, Dorothy Averett Genthner of Crawford County; his children, Judith (Lee) Samuels, Robin (Phil) Simmons, all of Crawford County, Scott (Sherry) Genthner of Griffin, Shara Genthner of South Africa, Kenniane (JT) Tull of Byron, James Denny (Yvonne) Park of Sea Brook, SC and Denise (Joe) Jordan of Moultrie; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Ash of Plattsburg, NE and many nieces and nephews.
