Dr. Hubert R. Buxton Jr.

MACON – Dr. Hubert R. Buxton, Jr., 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Harrison House, Carlyle Place. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Vineville United Methodist Church with Dr. Marcus Tripp and the Rev. Jimmy Duke officiating. Burial will be private. The family will meet friends following the service. They suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.

Dr. Buxton, son of the late Hubert R. Buxton, Sr. and Lucille Vance Buxton, was born in Millen, GA. He graduated Valedictorian of Sardis High School, attended Emory at Oxford, and graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia where he was a member of the Theta Kappa PSI Medical Fraternity.

Dr. Buxton served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1957 -1963 at Brook Army Hospital in San Antonia, TX and Letterman Hospital in San Francisco, CA. He practiced anesthesiology in Macon from 1964 – 1995. He was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiology, Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and the Idle Hour Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Delucenay Buxton and his children, Victoria Cork (Charles), Hubert R. “Bucky” Buxton, III, both of Macon, Christine Faenza (Robert) of Atlanta and Carla Wilcher (Bert) of Tampa; grandchildren, Sara Cork of Atlanta, Catherine Buxton and Daniel Buxton of Macon, Laura Faenza of Atlanta, Brian Wilcher and Benjamin Wilcher of Tampa; two step-grandchildren, Kate Faenza and Margaret Faenza of Atlanta; one sister, Mary Vance Washington of Augusta, GA and two sisters-in-law, Janet D. Militello of Ocala, FL and Virginia Buxton of Sardis, GA. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Flynt Buxton.
