Visitation services for Dr. James Mack Butler will be held Saturday, February 2nd from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to All About Animals in Macon, or your favorite Animal Rescue Association. The family may be contacted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Cannon, 108 Cory Drive, Bolingbroke, Georgia.
A Macon native, Dr. Butler was the son of the late James Mack, and Beadie Jane Brown Butler. He was a graduate of Lanier High School, attended Mercer University, Auburn University, and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. Dr. Butler was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Omega Tau Sigma Veterinary Service Fraternity, and the Georgia AVMA. He was a charter member of Riverside Golf and Country Club, the Macon Elks Club, and was a past president of the Lions Club.
Dr. Butler was the owner of Butler’s Pet Hospital in Macon where he practiced veterinary medicine for fifty six years until his retirement in 2011. An avid Georgia Bulldawg fan, he enjoyed fishing and spending time at his home on Amelia Island. Dr. Butler was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edith Middlebrooks, his daughter Susan Bush, and his grandson, Mack Cannon.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Cannon (Randy); his grandsons, Wil Bush (Heather), Eric Bush (Bryn); great grandchildren, Aidan, Amelia, Mack, Caitlan, Lizzie, and Laney; his special friend, Gini Ellis. Thank you to Heartland Hospice and Tammy Crosby for their love and care.
